Cycling Fraternity Mourns the Loss of Paul Healion

The cycling world was saddened today with the news the Irish cyclist Paul Healion has died in a road traffic accident. The popular rider was due to ride with the Irish National team in the Tour of Ireland cycle race starting this weekend.

Healion was an integral part of the Cycling Ireland's High Performance plan. He won the Irish Criterium Championship this year and was part of the quartet that broke the Irish men's 4,000m team pursuit record. He won stages in this year's FBD Rás and the Tour of the North. He was also the Irish Time Trial Champion in 2005. He had many notable victories in his successful career including stage wins in the Tour of Ulster and overall victory in the Rás Mumhan.
